BE*
BE explores the complexities and paradoxes of being human, from birth to death, and everything in between. An illuminating creative project, through online and printed seasonal periodicals, conceptual installations and workshops in exhibition, fabrication, and presentation, photographic documentary, spoken word, ambient sound and projected video and imagery, as well as sensory experiences, the Be project aims to provoke reflection and hope for the future with a more humanist perspective, focusing on what it means to be a modern human in the everlasting natural world.
Birth and Growth
Witness the beginning of life through art and documentary, and explore themes such as innocence, gullibility, vulnerability, and the promise of potential.
Human nature, geography and culture
How does human nature affect human culture? How can we return to a better relationship with nature and natural processes? How can we address the conflicts and challenges between human nature and nature itself? How can we include cultural morality, social ethics, and evolutionary and biological psychology in our educational curriculums?
Consciousness, thought, action and reaction
How each individual perceives their world while being part of their immediate and wider community (family, friends, township, country, culture and continent). How can we better understand our collective consciousness, morals, ethics, empathy, metaphor and limitations?
Conflict and Struggle
Be will show evidence and themes of conflict, struggle, and adversity, to better understand the darker side of human nature and how we are vulnerable to suggestion, misinformation, fear and eventually hate and suffering.
Love and Connection
Witness how a small act of kindness can spread happiness further than the exchange of empathy and kindness. Being will celebrate the connections that bind us together, including themes of love, family, and community.
Mortality and Transcendence
Life and death go hand in hand like light and dark, night and day, human life is defined by our time on earth and how and why we arrive and leave our mortal existence. Birth and death are the two ultimate human experiences, and in between the ideas, hopes and dreams of meaningful life and the possibility of conscious or unconscious transcendence beyond it.
Throughout the various manifestations of the Be project, creatives, followers and appreciators will be invited to contemplate and reflect on our own experiences of being human. The project aims to create a space for contemplation, empathy, connection, and appreciation for the challenges, complexity, and aesthetics of the human condition in modern times.
The print edition of Be will present as a seasonal review and digest featuring civic ideology, useful well-being and societal insight, and will carry supplementary material and creative and conversational workshops and presentations.
