A Semi-Permanent Exhibition on the top floor of the CCCB exhibition halls
The School of Being and the being expo explore what it means to be a human being through ego, time, place and endeavours, diversity is key, as partists and members challenge visitors while considering the complexities and contradictions of the human experience. The show is presented as five stages, each an abstract aspect of what it is to be human, past, present, and future.
Physicality – Physicality is embodiment, design and engineering, gender and sexuality, vulnerability and resilience of the mind and body.
Emotions – Human emotions – love, joy, sorrow, fear, anger, emotions change constantly and effective emotions are so transient, unsuspecting and credulous.
Identity – The third section of the exhibition explores the construction of human identity, including themes of gender, race, and class. This section includes works by artists such as Kara Walker, Frida Kahlo, and David Wojnarowicz.
Society – The fourth section of the exhibition investigates the role of society in shaping the human experience, including themes of power, oppression, and resistance. This section includes works by artists such as Ai Weiwei, Carrie Mae Weems, and Kara Walker.
Transcendence – The final section of the exhibition focuses on the possibility of transcendence beyond the limits of the human experience, including themes of spirituality, mortality, and the infinite. This section includes works by artists such as Marina Abramović, Anish Kapoor, and James Turrell.
Throughout the exhibition, visitors are invited to reflect on their own experiences of being human and to engage with the diverse perspectives and voices presented by the artists. The exhibition aims to create a space for empathy, understanding, and connection, as well as an appreciation for the richness and complexity of the human experience.
